Flashback Friday: Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke Find "Harmony"
The late, great entertainer and her TV husband light up the small screen with this number from The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Show business lost one of the greats earlier this week with the passing of the pioneering actress, comedian, and activist Mary Tyler Moore. Before turning the world on with her smile in her eponymous sitcom in 1970, she landed her breakout role on The Dick Van Dyke Show as Laura Petrie (wife of Rob Petrie, played by Van Dyke) — a role she played from 1961-66. For five years, the onscreen spouses hammed up the screen with song-and-dance numbers. Sadly, Moore never had the chance to show off those chops on Broadway (her only Broadway musical, Breakfast at Tiffany's, closed in previews), but thanks to the magic of television archives, we and generations of musical-theater lovers to come will be able to enjoy Moore's timeless showmanship.
