Film Star Alexa Vega to Join Hairspray on February 13

Film star Alexa Vega, best known for her roles in the Spy Kids trilogy, will take over the role of Penny Pingleton in the long-running Broadway production of Hairspray on Tuesday, February 13. She will replace Diana DeGarmo.

Vega’s other film credits include Twister, Little Giants, The Deep End of the Ocean, and The Beautiful Ordinary. She has also appeared on such television series as Evening Shade, Ladies Man, and Chicago Hope.

Based on the hit film by John Waters, Hairspray has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The show is directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. It won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Hairspray currently stars Paul Vogt as Edna, Jere Burns as Wilbur, Shannon Durig as Tracy, Ashley Parker Angel as Link, and Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle.
