Brian Murray, Jayne Houdyshell, Jessie Austrian to Join Broadway's Importance of Being Earnest logo

Brian Murray, Jayne Houdyshell and Jessie Austrian will join The Roundabout Theatre Company's critically acclaimed Broadway revival of The Importance of Being Earnest beginning March 22. They replace, respectively, Paxton Whitehead as Rev. Canon Chasuble, Dana Ivey as Miss Prism, and Sara Topham as Gwendolen Fairfax, all of whom will play their final performance on Sunday, March 20.

As previously reported, the production has extended its run at the American Airlines Theatre through July 3.

Brian Bedford directs and stars as Lady Bracknell in Earnest, Oscar Wilde's popular comedy of mistaken identity. The cast also features Santino Fontana as Algernon Moncrieff, David Furr as Jack Worthing, Tim MacDonald as Merriman, Paul O'Brien as Lane, and Charlotte Parry as Cecily Cardew.

The design team includes Desmond Heeley (sets & costumes), Duane Schuler (lights) and Drew Levy (sound).

Murray has an extensive list of Broadway credits, and received Tony nominations for The Crucible, The Little Foxes, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Among his honors are an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence and a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work. Houdyshell received a Tony nomination and Theatre World Award for Well, with other Broadway credits including Bye Bye Birdie and Wicked. Austrian has previously appeared on Broadway in Lend Me a Tenor, with Off-Broadway credits including the Roundabout's The Marriage of Bette and Boo.
