Berresse and d’Amboise Will Play Zach and Cassie in Broadway Revival of A Chorus Line

Broadway veterans Michael Berresse and Charlotte d’Amboise will head the cast of the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line. The production is scheduled to play San Francisco’s Curran Theatre in July and to open on Broadway in the fall at a theater yet to be announced. No further casting information has been released.

D’Amboise will play Cassie, the down-on-her-luck star dancer who’s looking to make a comeback, even if only as part of the line. A frequent star of Chicago, d’Amboise recently appeared on Broadway in Sweet Charity, playing the title role in previews and serving as Christina Applegate’s stand-by. She received a special TDF/Astaire award for her “invaluable contribution to Broadway dance during the 2004-05 season.” Her other Broadway credits include Jerome Robbins’ Broadway (Tony nomination), Contact, Company, Song and Dance, Cats, and Carrie.

Berresse will play Zach, Cassie’s former lover and the director of the unnamed musical that figures in the plot of A Chorus Line. He is currently featured in The Light in the Piazza and was previously seen on Broadway in Kiss Me Kate (Tony nomination), Chicago, The Gershwins’ Fascinating Rhythm, Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, and Fiddler on the Roof.

The original 1975 production of A Chorus Line was conceived, directed, and choreographed by Michael Bennett. The show is based on the life stories of a number of Broadway dancers; it has a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch (who will provide new orchestrations for the revival), and lyrics by Edward Kleban. The original production won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the show won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The revival will be directed by Bob Avian, co-choreographer of the original production.
