Audra McDonald To Be Feted With “Pipe Night” at NYC’s The Players

Holy smokes! Five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will become the 100th person to be honored with a “Pipe Night” at The Players at 6pm on Sunday, October 21.

This tradition, which originated at the turn of the century as an evening where men were told to bring their pipes to the famed club, now consists of an evening where artists are honored for their contributions to the American Stage — and pipes are strictly forbidden.

Past “Pipe Night” recipients include Charlie Chaplin, John Barrymore, Frank Sinatra, Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, and Roger Moore.

McDonald won Tony Awards for her performances in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Master Class, Ragtime, and Carousel. Among her other stage credits are 110 in the Shade, Marie Christine, and concert stagings of Passion and Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.
