Now we know who will spending spring in New York!

Broadway stars Adam Kantor (Rent) and Betsy Wolfe (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) will star in Second Stage Theatre‘s upcoming revival of Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown’s acclaimed musical The Last Five Years, which begins previews March 7 in advance of an April 2 opening. Brown will direct the production.

The two-character work explores the courtship, marriage, and separation of a pair of twenty-something New Yorkers: Jamie (Kantor), an aspiring author who quickly gains success, and Cathy (Wolfe), an actress, whose career never fully takes off. The show is told in different chronological order from each of their viewpoints. Among the show’s songs are “Still Hurting,” “A Summer In Ohio,” and “The Last Ten Minutes.”

The musical was previously seen in New York at the Minetta Lane Theatre in 2002 in a production that starred Norbert Leo Butz (Dead Accounts) and Sherie Rene Scott (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), and which earned Brown the Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Lyrics.

Brown’s musicals also include 13, Songs for a New World, and Parade, for which he received a Tony Award for Best Original Score. He also contributed songs to Urban Cowboy and is currently at work on Honeymoon in Vegas.

Wolfe, currently starring as Rosa Bud in Broadway’s Drood, appeared in the Second Stage and Broadway productions of Everyday Rapture, which starred Scott. Her other credits include 110 in the Shade, Merrily We Roll Along, Tales of The City, Ragtime, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Kantor appeared on Broadway in Rent, and can be seen in the show’s live DVD recording. He has also been seen in Next to Normal, Avenue Q, and Nobody Loves You.

The production will feature musical direction by Thomas Murray, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Jon Weston.
