Mettawee River Theater’s The Old Boat Goddess to Run at St. John the Divine

| New York City |

July 18, 2011

Ralph Lee’s Mettawee River Theater Company’s The Old Boat Goddess – Songs of the Ainu will run September 9-18 at the Outdoor Garden of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

The work, based on three lively and engaging traditional tales from the Ainu, the indigenous people of northern Japan, features a loathsome dragon who meets an unexpected fate, a young warrior who subdues a gigantic ferocious fish, and the reminiscences of a primordial tree as she is transformed into a sailing vessel. A range of masks, puppets and giant figures will populate these adventurous tales of interactions between humans, gods and the natural world.

Reservations are not required. For information, call 212-929-4777 or visit www.mettawee.org.
