A starry crowd at the
Booth Theatre helped welcome Bette Midler back to Broadway in John Logan’s new bioplay,
I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers, which opened on Wednesday, April 24.
Directed by Joe Mantello, the one-woman show stars Midler as Hollywood superagent Mengers, who by the 1970s became one of the most powerful people in Tinseltown, representing clients the likes of Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, and Ali MacGraw.
MacGraw was among the “twinklies,” (as Mengers called celebs) on hand for the evening, a list that also included Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenburg, Christine Baranski, Larry Kramer and David Webster, Ellen Barkin, Jim Parsons, John Benjamin Hickey, Glenn Close, Harvey Fierstein, Kathy Griffin, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Susan Sarandon, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and many others.
