According to published reports, Dear Evan Hansen is set to be adapted into a film, with the musical's creators — composer-lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and book writer Steven Levenson — expected to be executive producers.

Stephen Chbosky, writer-director of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Wonder, is in negotiations to direct the film, with Levenson writing the screenplay. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce through Marc Platt Productions. It has yet to be determined whether Ben Platt will reprise his Tony-winning role as Evan Hansen in the film.

Dear Evan Hansen is described as follows: "A letter that was never meant to be seen, a lie that was never meant to be told, a life he never dreamed he could have. Evan Hansen is about to get the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to finally fit in."
