Performances of Center Theatre Group’s production of The Mystery of Love & Sex start this evening at the Mark Taper Forum.

Charlotte and Jonny have been best friends since they were 9 years old. Now that they are attending college together, they debate taking their relationship to a new level. While Charlotte is in love with Jonny, she is also in love with her new friend Claire. To make the situation more complicated, she can’t explain either relationship to her parents, who aren’t taking any of this news well, even as they keep secrets of their own. In the ensuing tangle of romance, race, and interpersonal relationships, all four discover uncomfortable truths about each other and themselves.

Written by Bathsheba Doran, the show is directed by Robert Egan and features Sharon Lawrence, David Pittu, Robert Towers, York Walker, and Mae Whitman.

Performances will run through March 20.
