Robin Gibb Has Died

Singer and songwriter Robin Gibb, who was part of the Bee Gees with his brothers Maurice and Barry, has died of cancer at age 62.

A top-selling group through much of the 1970s and 1980s, the Bee Gees gained their greatest fame through their contributions to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, which later became a Broadway musical and toured successfully in the UK. Among the hit songs featured in the film and the musical were “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love.”

Gibb released his first classical album Titanic Requiem, co-written with his son RJ, earlier this year, and the piece had its world premiere on April 10 in London, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing the work.

The Bee Gees were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
