A four-person stage adaptation of the novel Ben Hur will run at the Watermill Theatre in the U.K., June 22-July 28.
Written and co-directed by The 39 Steps playwright Patrick Barlow, the cast will feature Elizabeth Cadwallader, Bob Goody, Nick Haverson, and John Hopkins. Sean Foley will co-direct the production, which is produced by Watermill and Fiery Angel.
The company will reportedly play 12,059 characters, and the piece will feature a sea battle with real water and a chariot race with real chariots.
The creative team includes Paul Wills (scenic and costume design), Nick Richings (lighting design), and Ben and Max Ringham (sound design).
