Houston’s Alley Theatre has announced casting for its production of Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award-winning play Amadeus. Performances will take place April 1-May 1 on Alley Theatre’s Hubbard Stage.

Amadeus is a fictional story inspired by the historical circumstances of the artistic and personal rivalry between Viennese court composers Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The play’s complex world of religious faith, moral standards, genuine inspiration, and artistic expression are illuminated through a series of flashbacks seen from Salieri’s perspective.

Jonathan Moscone will direct the 17-member cast featuring Jeffrey Bean as Antonio Salieri and Stanley Bahorek as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Amadeus will also feature Alley Theatre Artists James Belcher as Baron Van Swieten, James Black as Count Orsini-Rosenberg, Chris Hutchison as Joseph II, Charles Krohn as Johann Kilian Von Strack, David Rainey as Giuseppe Bonno/Citizen of Vienna, Emily Neves as Citizen of Vienna and Melissa Pritchett as Constanze Weber. Additional players will include Patrick Damien Earl as Priest/Citizen of Vienna, Dylan Godwin and Adam Van Wagoner as The Venticelli, Steve Irish as Major Domo/Citizen of Vienna, Amanda Kingston as Katherina Cavalieri/Citizen of Vienna, Kalob Martinez as Salieri’s Cook/Citizen of Vienna, Anne Quackenbush as Teresa Salieri/Citizen of Vienna and Santry Rush as Salieri’s Valet/Citizen of Vienna.

The production will feature scenic design by Daniel Ostling, costume design by Katherine Roth, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, and sound design by Rob Milburn & Michael Bodeen.
