Asolo Repertory Theatre Presents US Premiere of Hetty Feather
The U.K. sensation closes out their 2015-16 season.
Set in the 19th century, the show follows an adventurous redhead named Hetty Feather. Orphaned as a baby, she was left to the not-so-tender mercies of the Foundling Hospital. Her imagination and spirit, however, refuses to be contained. In her quest to find her true him, she travels from the English countryside to the traveling circus to the gritty and Dickensian streets of London. All along the way are thrilling aerials, circus feats, live music, and a spectacular story. The cross between Orphan Annie and Cirque du Soleil celebrates the truly random nature of life.
Jacqueline Wilson's popular novel was adapted by Emma Reeves. The show is directed by Sally Cookson, who also directed the West End production. The cast comprises Chloe Mantripp, who replaces the previously announced Phoebe Thomas in the title role, Matt Costain as Jem/Matron Bottomly, Sarah Goddard as Peg/Ida, Nik Howden as Saul, Mark Kane as Gideon, Nikki Warwick as Madame Adeline, Seamas H. Carey as Musician, and Luke Potter as Musician.
"I have been producing theatre in the West End and around the English provinces for 25 years and no other production of mine has ever had such fantastic reviews," said Kenny Wax, producer of Hetty Feather." To have the opportunity now to bring our extraordinary show over to play at Asolo Rep is very special indeed, made even more exciting by Sarasota's historic association with the Ringling Brothers Circus. I don't think a story about a feisty little girl who wants to run away to join the circus could find a more suitable home in the U.S. in which to premiere."
Performances will run through June 26.
