Two-time Tony nominee Jonathan Groff (Hamilton, Spring Awakening) will headline the Westport Country Playhouse’s 2017 Gala on Saturday, September 9, replacing the previously announced Matthew Morrison (Glee, Finding Neverland), who is no longer available to perform due to a scheduling conflict.

Groff was last seen on Broadway in his Tony-nominated role as King George III in Hamilton. He is also well known as the voice of Kristoff in the animated Disney film Frozen, as Jesse St. James on television’s Glee, and from his Tony-nominated role as Melchior in the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening. Groff last appeared at Westport Country Playhouse in a Script in Hand play reading of Butterflies Are Free with Blythe Danner in 2010.

The gala’s theme, "moonlight over Venice," will evoke the romance and glamor of Italy's canals. A cocktail party will begin at 5:45pm, followed by a 7pm presentation of the Playhouse Leadership Award to Ann Sheffer, a 7:15pm performance by Groff, and an 8:30pm dinner. A silent auction will be ongoing throughout the evening.

Gala proceeds will benefit the nonprofit theater, now in its 87th season. Funds will go toward its work onstage, with schools, and throughout the community.
