Steppenwolf Theatre has announced complete casting for the Chicago premiere of The Children, written by Lucy Kirkwood and directed by Jonathan Berry. Performances are set to run from April 18-June 9 in the Downstairs Theatre.

The cast includes previously announced ensemble members Ora Jones (Rose) and Yasen Peyankov (Robin), with Janet Ulrich Brooks (Hazel) rounding out the cast. The Children premiered in London in 2016, followed by a 2017 Broadway production, presented by Manhattan Theatre Club, which earned a Tony nomination for Best Play.

The Children is described as follows: "On a summer evening in an isolated seaside cottage in the East of England, a pair of retired nuclear scientists are startled by a visit from a former colleague. As some crackers and wine are trotted out, so are various old jealousies, leading to the true reason for Rose's sudden reappearance: the revelation of a chilling and dangerous plan."

The production team includes Chelsea Warren (scenic design), Mara Blumenfeld (costume design), Lee Fiskness (lighting design), Andre Pluess (sound design), and Gigi Buffington (company voice and text coach).

"I'm so incredibly excited to be directing the Chicago premier of Lucy's hauntingly affecting play for Steppenwolf, and to have three such extraordinary Chicago actors filling these magnificent roles," says Berry. "Lucy's work powerfully interrogates the challenging space between our all too human desires and our shared responsibility to the generations to come."
