Will Swenson to Step In for Roger Bart in Broadway's Disaster!
The Tony-nominated actor will join the Broadway cast for a short run.
Tony nominee Will Swenson will join the cast of Broadway's Disaster! for nine performances only at the Nederlander Theatre. He'll be taking on the role of Tony Delvecchio, typically played by Tony winner Roger Bart, from April 29-May 6. Bart will return to the production May 7 after fulfilling a prior shooting commitment.
Swenson was last seen on Broadway as Javert in Les Misérables. His other Broadway credits include Hair (Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations), Priscilla Queen of the Desert, 110 in the Shade, Lestat, and Brooklyn.
Disaster! cowriter and star Seth Rudetsky said, "When I was at Will and Audra McDonald's wedding, part of me was thinking, 'He's so funny and handsome. Perfect for Audra!' As well as, 'He's so funny and handsome. Perfect to play Tony in Disaster!'"
Directed by Jack Plotnick, Disaster! features a book by three-time Emmy and Grammy Award nominee Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick. The musical is a send-up of the disaster movies of the 1970s, incorporating hit tunes such as "Hot Stuff," "Don't Bring Me Down," "I Am Woman," "Alone Again, Naturally," "Signed Sealed Delivered," "Knock on Wood," "Daybreak," "Sky High," and more.
The cast currently stars Roger Bart (The Producers), Kerry Butler (Xanadu), Kevin Chamberlin (The Addams Family), Adam Pascal (Rent), Faith Prince (Guys & Dolls), Rachel York (Victor/Victoria), Seth Rudetsky (SiriusXM's Seth's Big Fat Broadway), Jennifer Simard (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Max Crumm (Grease), Baylee Littrell, and Lacretta Nicole, along with ensemble members Paul Castree, Manoel Felciano, Casey Garvin, Travis Kent, Alyse Alan Louis, Maggie McDowell, Olivia Phillip, and Catherine Ricafort.
