The Band's Visit Will End Its Broadway Run

The Band's Visit, Broadway's 2018 Tony-winning Best Musical, will end its run at the Barrymore Theatre on April 7. The production will have played 36 previews and 589 regular performances during its engagement on Broadway.

Based on the screenplay by Eran Kolirin, The Band's Visit features music and lyrics by David Yazbek, a book by Itamar Moses, and direction by David Cromer. The musical premiered at the Atlantic Theater Company in November 2016, before opening on Broadway in November 2017. It recouped its $8.75 million capitalization in September 2018, less than 12 months after its first preview. The Broadway production is the recipient of 10 Tony Awards.

The Broadway company currently includes Tony winners Katrina Lenk and Ari'el Stachel, Sasson Gabay, Brandon Uranowitz, Etai Benson, Adam Kantor, Andrew Polk, Samir Shukry, Bill Army, Rachel Prather, Jonathan Raviv, Alok Tewari, Sharone Sayegh, Kristen Sieh, Layan Elwazani, Ahmad Maksoud, Pomme Koch, Jodi McFadden, Zal Owen, and James Rana. Musicians include Alexandra Eckhardt, Ossama Farouk, Dan Lipton, Philip Mayer, Sam Sadigursky, Jeff Theiss, Harvey Valdes, and Garo Yellin.

The North American tour of The Band's Visit will launch on June 25 at the Providence Performing Arts Center in
Rhode Island, with further stops at the Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), the Knight Theater (Charlotte, North Carolina), the Cadillac Palace Theatre (Chicago), the Orpheum Theatre (Minneapolis), the Hippodrome (Baltimore), the Golden Gate Theatre (San Francisco), and the Smith Center (Las Vegas), with more cities to be announced shortly.

"It's a sad moment in a very happy story," producer Orin Wolf told TheaterMania. "We're going to launch a robust national tour beginning in June that's going to play a very lush route that's unique for a show like this. And I'm excited that more audiences will be able to see and experience it, and hopefully it will have a similar impact on them that it's had here in New York. I hope these audiences leave with a greater sense of what a Broadway show can be."
