The original Broadway company of The Band's Visit received a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Best Musical Performance in a Daytime Program" for their performance of "Answer Me" on NBC's Today.

Everyone who appeared onscreen during that performance received the award. That list includes actors Katrina Lenk, Tony Shalhoub, John Cariani, Ari'el Stachel, George Abud, Etai Benson, Adam Kantor, Andrew Polk, Bill Army, Rachel Prather, Jonathan Raviv, Sharone Sayegh, Kristen Sieh, and Alok Tewari, and musicians Ossama Farouk, Sam Sadigursky, Harvey Valdes, and Garo Yellin.

Based on the screenplay by Eran Kolirin, The Band's Visit has a score by David Yazbek and a book by Itamar Moses. The story is described as follows: "After a mix-up at the border, an Egyptian Police Band is sent to a remote village in the middle of the Israeli desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways." Winner of 10 Tony Awards, the Broadway production was directed by David Cromer.
