The new Broadway revival of William Finn and James Lapine's musical Falsettos celebrated its opening night on October 27 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Two-time Tony winner Christian Borle and Tony nominees Stephanie J. Block and Andrew Rannells head the company of this production, alongside Anthony Rosenthal (A Christmas Story) as Jason, Tracie Thoms (Rent) as Dr. Charlotte, Tony nominee Brandon Uranowitz (An American in Paris) as Mendel, and Betsy Wolfe (Bullets Over Broadway) as Cordelia.

Joining the cast for the festivities were members of the original Falsettos company, including Michael Rupert, Stephen Bogardus, Barbara Walsh, Jonathan Kaplan, Chip Zien, Heather MacRae, and Carolee Carmello, as well as veterans of the show's original off-Broadway runs, Alison Fraser (March of the Falsettos) and Janet Metz (Falsettoland).

Falsettos premiered on Broadway in 1992 and won Tony Awards for Best Score for William Finn and Best Book of a Musical for James Lapine and Finn. The show consists of two separate musicals, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, the last two in a trilogy of one-act off-Broadway plays that premiered at Playwrights Horizons, then led by current Lincoln Center Theater artistic director André Bishop. It follows the lives of five people: Marvin, his ex-wife Trina, his psychiatrist Mendel, his son Jason, and his lover Whizzer.

The production has choreography by Spencer Liff, sets by David Rockwell, costumes by Jennifer Caprio, lighting by Jeff Croiter, sound by Dan Moses Schreier, and musical direction by Vadim Feichtner, conducting Michael Starobin’s original orchestrations.
Lapine directs the revival, as he did the original production.
