The Kite Runner, Race, Marry Me a Little Part of New Repertory Theatre 2012-2013 Season
New Repertory Theatre has announced the line-up of plays set for its 2012-2013 season, which will begin in September.
The Kite Runner (September 9-30), an epic story of friendship, family, and betrayal adapted by Matthew Spangler from Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel, will open the season. Elaine Van Hogue will direct. David Mamet’s comedy Race (October 14-November 4), directed by Robert Walsh, will question the meaning of race in today’s polite society. Doug Lockwood will direct Chesapeake (November 25-December 16), in which a performance artist challenges a senator from stopping NEA funding.
To kick off the new year, Ilyse Robbins will direct Marry Me a Little (January 6-27), a look at the many sides of the meaning of marriage with songs by Stephen Sondheim. Then, Lungs, directed by Bridget Kathleen O’Leary, (February 17-March 10) will question the impact of starting a family in the present day. Master Class (March 31-April 21) will offer a glimpse into the world of renowned opera diva Maria Callas in the twilight of her career, with Antonio Ocampo-Guzman directing. To close the season Jim Petosa will direct Amadeus (April 28-May 19), the dramatic story of the prodigy’s legacy, told by his rival Antonio Saliari with music by Peter Shaffer.
The theater’s holiday offerings will include Russell Vandenbroucke’s Holiday Memories (December 9-23), based on short stories by Truman Capote and Becky Mode’s comedy Fully Committed (December 19-30), directed by Bridget Kathleen O’Leary.
