The Tuacahn Amphitheater of Ivins, Utah, will present an outdoor production of the new Disney musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame this summer and fall. The musical will run July 29, 2016-October 15, 2016.

Based on the classic book by Victor Hugo, and the subsequent 1996 animated film, the show focuses on Quasimodo, the deformed hunchback of Notre Dame. His life as the bell-ringer of the cathedral is changed forever when he meets the beautiful gypsy Esmerelda. The musical presents the tragic story of Quasimodo’s love for her and the many intrigues he encounters in his attempt to protect and help her.

The musical features lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, music by Alan Menken, and book by Peter Parnell. It premiered at La Jolla Playhouse during fall 2014 before running at the Paper Mill Playhouse in early 2015. That production, directed by Scott Schwartz, featured Michael Arden in the title role, alongside fellow Broadway vets Patrick Page, Ciara Renée, Andrew Samonsky, and Erik Liberman. A studio cast recording of the musical will be released on the Ghostlight Records label.

Additional information about this upcoming staging of Hunchback will be announced in the future.
