Pop star Adam Lambert and Emmy winner Bradley Whitford — both of whom are theater veterans — visited backstage at the national tour of the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, at the Pantages Theatre following the show’s January 22 performance. The show completed its run at that venue on January 23, and next plays Costa Mesa’s Segerstrom Hall, January 25-February 6.

With a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot, the show depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60’s and 70’s that changed America forever. Diane Paulus directs, with choreography by Karole Armitage.

The cast is led by Steel Burkhardt as Berger, Paris Remillard as Claude, and Caren Lyn Tackett as Sheila. Additional principal cast members include Matt DeAngelis as Woof, Phyre Hawkins as Dionne, Kaitlin Kiyan as Crissy, Darius Nichols as Hud, and Kacie Sheik as Jeanie.

Lambert appeared in the L.A. production of the musical Wicked. He gained international fame during his appearance on season 8 of FOX’s American Idol. Whitford was last seen on Broadway in Boeing-Boeing, and is probably best known for his Emmy-winning role as Josh Lyman on The West Wing.
