(© Pauline Tajchman) | Celebrated jazz singer Paula West will sing the signature songs of Lena Horne in conjunction with readings from James Gavin's new book, Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne, to be held at the Museum of Performance & Design on July 15 at 7 pm.
In the book, Gavin traces Horne's turbulent journey from Brooklyn's black bourgeoisie to the brutal Deep South of the 1920s to Harlem's Cotton Club to 1940s M-G-M, where she reigned as Hollywood's first glamorous black star. The evening will also include rare Horne footage, and a signing by Gavin immediately following the program.
