Rex Reed’s The Man That Got Away: Ira Without George is set to play at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco’s Kanbar Hall, April 13-15. The show will also play in Baton Rouge, LA at Louisiana State University Friday, April 20 at 7:30pm and in Bayside, NY at The Queensborough Performing Arts Center Sunday April 22 at 3pm.

Created by critic and author Rex Reed, The Man That Got Away: Ira Without George highlights the life of Ira Gershwin, George’s older brother. The production follows Ira from childhood through the following decades of writing and focuses on the songs he wrote without his brother, including collaborations with major composers such as Harold Arlen, Kurt Weill, and Vernon Duke.

The performance will star Reed, along with Gregory Harrison, Sally Mayes, Linda Purl, and Kurt Reichenbach. The cast will be backed by a three-piece jazz combo led by Emmy Award winner Mike Renzi.
