Cirque du Soleil’s Zarkana to Play Russia in 2012, Bow in June at Radio City Music Hall

Cirque du Soleil’s new spectacle Zarkana will play Russia’s Kremlin Palace in Moscow beginning February 2012. The Kremlin Palace has a capacity for 5,000 spectators which will allow over 350,000 guests from Russia, Europe and Asia to see the production during its run there.

The show will debut at Radio City Music Hall on June 9 for a limited run through the summer. François Girard will write and direct the production, which will feature over 70 international artists. Elton John will organize the show’s music.

The new show takes place in an abandoned theater and follows a magician named Zark who has lost his love and with her, his magic has disappeared. As he cries and begs the Gods for her return he is plunged into a world inhabited by surreal creatures.

The creative team, under the artistic guidance of Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix, will include Line Tremblay (director of creation), Stéphane Roy (set and props designer), Alan Hranitelj (costume designer), Nick Littlemore (composer and musical director), Debra Brown (choreographer), Elena Kolyadenko (choreographer), Alain Lortie (lighting designer), Raymond St-Jean (image content designer), Steven Dubuc (sound designer), Florence Pot (acrobatic performance designer), Danny Zen (rigging and acrobatic equipment designer), and Eleni Uranis (makeup designer).
