Composer Judd Woldin has died of cancer, according to a report in The New York Times. He was 86.
Woldin received a Tony Award nomination for his score for Raisin, a musical version of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. The show’s original cast album also received a Grammy Award.
Among his other musicals are King of Schnorrers on Broadway, and the off-Broadway musicals Little Ham, Jonah and Tatterdemalion, as well as the play Murder in Baker Street.
He is survived by his life partner, Amy Seidman, five children from his previous marriage to Sherry Lester, and seven grandchildren.
