Oscar nominee James Franco will collaborate with Laurel Nakadate in Three Performances in Search of Tennessee, a three-part project based around Tennessee Williams’ famous play The Glass Menagerie. The work is part of Performa 11, the fourth edition of the internationally acclaimed biennial of new visual art performance, and will be presented by the Abrons Arts Center on Sunday, November 13 at Noon, and broadcast on the Internet.
Part one of the project will consist of a séance in the Elysée Hotel in New York City, in the room in which Tennessee Williams died; part two will be a live audition for female actresses for the role of Laura; while part three will be a live audition for male actors to play the role of Tom. Nakadate and Franco will intervene as “directors” as the actors’ attempt to inhabit the role.
