Andre Braugher, Andre De Shields, Sanaa Lathan et al. Nominated for Audelco Awards

Nominations for the 2011 The Vivian Robinson/Audelco Awards (known as the “VIV”) have been announced. The awards will be presented in a ceremony held at Harlem Stage/Aaron Davis Hall on Monday, November 14 at 7pm.

The awards promote and celebrate African-American involvement in American Theatre. Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson are serving as Honorary Co-Chairpersons for this year’s event. NY-1 Anchor Cheryl Wills and Def Poetry Jam co-founder Danny Simmons will be the co-hosts for the ceremony.

Lead actor nominees include Andre Braugher (The Whipping Man); Chris Chalk (When I Come to Die); Andre De Shields (Knock Me a Kiss); Ty Jones (Henry V); Ralph McCain (The Right Reverend Dupree in Exile); and Marcus Naylor (Cool Blues).

Nominees for Lead actress include Debra Ann Byrd (Antony & Cleopatra); Erin Cherry (Knock Me a Kiss); Terria Joseph (Cool Blues); Sanaa Lathan (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark); and Kimberlee Monroe (Nobody Knew they Was).

Supporting actor nominees include Daniel Breaker (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark); Andre Holland (The Whipping Man); Morocco Omari (Knock Me a Kiss); Sean Phillips (Knock Me a Kiss); and Jay Ward (Cool Blues).

Supporting actress nominees include Gillian Glasco (Knock Me a Kiss); Kimberly Hebert Gregory (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark); Marie Thomas (Knock Me a Kiss); and Amanda Mason Warren (When I Come to Die).

In musical acting categories, nominees include Marvel Allen (The Widow and Miss Mamie); Dameka Hayes (It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues); Gerald Latham (It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues); Jannie Jones (Juneteenth Blues Cabaret); Jevon McFerrin (Tearing Down the Wall); Adrienne C. Moore (Tearing Down the Wall); Toni Seawright (The Widow and Miss Mamie); and Tommie Thompson (The Widow and Miss Mamie).

Among the other nominees are Jackie Alexander, Daniel Beaty, Jo Bonney, Miche Braden, Tracy Jack, Nathan Louis Jackson, Thomas Kail, Lynn Nottage, Petronia Paley, Alfred Preisser, and Nilaja Sun.
