Edward Albee, Athol Fugard, Katori Hall, et al. Set for Signature Theatre’s 2012 Season

Signature Theatre has announced the selections for its 2012 season, which will launch on January 31 at the newly-opened Signature Center at 480 West 42nd Street.


The company’s “Residency One” series devoted to the works of Athol Fugard will include Blood Knot, directed by Fugard (starting January 31); My Children! My Africa, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson (starting May 1), and the New York premiere of The Train Driver, directed by Fugard (starting August 14).


The company’s “Legacy Program” will feature the world premiere of Edward Albee’s Laying an Egg, to be directed by David Esbjornson (starting February 14). The play focuses on a middle-aged woman who renews her vow to get pregnant with chaotic results.


The company’s “Residency Five” program will feature the world premiere of Katori Hall’s award-winning play Hurt Village, directed by Patricia McGregor (starting February 7), the U.S. premiere of Will Eno’s Title and Deed, directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett (starting May 8), and the world premiere of a yet-to-be-titled new play by Kenneth Lonergan (starting May 15).


Casting and creative teams for all plays will be announced at a later date.
