Lin-Manuel Miranda to Star in Freestyle Love Supreme Pilot

Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda will star in Adult Swim’s television pilot Freestyle Love Supreme, based upon the stage show of the same name created by Thomas Kail and Anthony Veneziale.

The pilot will also feature Utkarsh Ambudkar, Veneziale, and Chris “Shockwave” Sullivan. It will have original music by Miranda and Emmy, Tony and Grammy-winning composer/producer Bill Sherman. In the live version of Freestyle Love Supreme, the hip hop improv performers spin cues from the audience into instantaneous riffs and fully realized musical numbers.

Miranda is best known as the co-author of the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights, and originated the role of Usnavi in the show’s Broadway production.

In related news, a live performance of Freestyle Love Supreme will be seen as part of Bumbershoot 2011 in Seattle this coming September.
