PBS will air Marvin Hamlisch Presents: The ’70s, The Way We Were, a special that will feature performers re-creating their big hits from the 1970s, in July and August.

Hamlisch will perform in and host the special, which features performances by BJ Thomas, Three Dog Night, Debby Boone, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Ray Stevens, Freda Payne, Guy and Ralna, Bobby Goldsboro, Billy Joe Royal, Peaches and Herb, Jonathan Edwards, and Gloria Gaynor. It was taped on March 17 at the Bezemes Family Theater at Lindenwood University’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts in St. Charles, Missouri.

Hamlisch won the Tony for his music for A Chorus Line and has scored such movies as The Way We Were and The Sting. His numerous awards also include three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, and three Golden Globes. As previously reported, he is writing music for the planned Broadway musical adaptation of The Nutty Professor.
