Joe Menino will play the title role in Phoenix Theatre Ensemble’s world premiere production of Glyn Maxwell’s Agamemnon Home, to perform March 22-April 1 at The Wild Project.

In this rethinking of Aeschylus’ tragedy, Agamemnon, who sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to appease the Gods and allow the Greeks to sail to Troy, has returned home after the 10-year war. However, in Maxwell’s play, we do not see the conquering hero of Aeschylus but a literal and figurative shipwreck of a man, washed up on shore with the future-seeing Cassandra.

The cast also includes Elise Stone as Clytemnestra, Kelli Holsopple as Cassandra, Brian Costello as Aegisthis, Josh Tyson as The Survivor, Craig Smith as The Watchman, with Amy Fitts, Brittany Pooler, and Zoe Watkins as the Chorus.

The production will have sets and lights are by Maruti Evans, costumes by Margaret McKeown, and music and songs composed by Ellen Mandel.

Agamemnon Home is the second production of the Phoenix 3-year House of Atreus cycle; the first production Iphigenia at Aulis played March of 2011; and the trilogy will conclude next season with Electra.
