Opera Orchestra of New York Cancels Simon Boccanegra Concert

The Opera Orchestra of New York has canceled the previously reported March 7 opera-in-concert presentation of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, which was to have starred Placido Domingo in the title role.

In a statement, the organization’s Board Chairman, Norman Raben, notes, “We regret having to cancel the upcoming presentation of Simon Boccanegra, but as a Board we have a mandate to be fiscally responsible, and with the loss of funding for this production we were given no choice but to cancel the concert.”

Patrons who purchased tickets for Simon Boccanegra through the Opera Orchestra of New York may donate the value of the ticket to the organization, use the ticket value towards future Opera Orchestra of New York productions, or receive a refund. Call the Opera Orchestra of New York offices at 212-906-9137 for further information. Patrons who purchased tickets through Avery Fisher Hall will receive a refund.
