Laura Innes, Linda Lavin, Cotter Smith, and More Join Powerhouse Theater’s 2013 Season

The currently running season already announced big-name artists such as Steve Martin and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Vassar and New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater has announced casting highlights for its second mainstage production, Mozhan Marnò’s When The Lights Went Out, the Martel Musical workshop of the new Simon Rich-Peter Lerman musical inspired by The Brooklyn Hero Supply Company. Also presented will be the season’s Inside Look Workshops. Vassar’s Powerhouse Theater season is running through July 28.

Laura Innes (ER), Cotter Smith (Next Fall), Sheila Vand (Argo, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), and Russell G. Jones (Ruined) will be featured in the cast of When The Lights Went Out by Mozhan Marnò. Kate Whoriskey (Ruined) will direct.

The new musical by Peter Lerman (The Virginia), inspired by The Brooklyn Hero Supply Company, will star Matt Doyle (Book of Mormon), Andrew Call (Rock of Ages), Gerard Canonico (Spring Awakening), Gideon Glick (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark), Alice Lee (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark), Nadia Quinn (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), and Simon Rich (Ant Farm) . Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) directs.

The season’s Inside Look Workshops, Found (by Hunter Bell, Lee Overtree, and Eli Bolin) and Mother of Invention (by James Lecesne), have announced their casts, with highlights including Nick Blaemire (Dogfight), Sandy Rustin (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change), Daniel Franzese (Mean Girls), Betsy Morgan (Les Misérables), Remy Zakin (Spring Awakening) in Found. Mother of Invention will feature Tony Award- and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Linda Lavin (The Lyons), Rachel Resheff (Mary Poppins), and Susan Pourfar (Tribes).

Powerhouse Theater is a collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film dedicated to both emerging and established artists in the development and production of new works for theater and film. It consists of an eight-week residency on the Vassar campus.
