Vassar College's Powerhouse Theater has a star-studded lineup for its upcoming season, scheduled to run from June 21-July 28.
The season will include fully staged productions of Seth Zvi Rosenfeld's Downtown Race Riot, about young roustabouts in Washington Square Park, and Mozhan Marno's When the Lights Went, which follows six New Yorkers through the Northeast blackout of 2003.
The lineup will also include three readings of new musicals. A reading of Bright Star will feature music and lyrics by singer-songwriter Edie Brickell and comedian Steve Martin, with a book also penned by Martin. Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Venus in Fur) will direct the presentation. An unnamed musical about superheroes, developed by married novelists Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, as well as Peter Larmen and Simon Rich, will also present a reading, staged by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (American Idiot).
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony Award-winning writer of In the Heights, is also slated to present his new musical, The Hamilton Mixtape, about the life of Alexander Hamilton. Thomas Kail will direct.
