On Tuesday, December 6, the Off-Broadway production of the new musical Once opened at New York Theatre Workshop where it is set to play through January 15, 2012. As previously announced, the show will transfer to Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, beginning previews February 28, with an official opening set for March 18.
With music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and a book by Enda Walsh, Once is adapted from the 2007 Academy Award-winning film of the same name. Directed by John Tiffany with movement by Steven Hoggett and musical direction by Martin Lowe, the show focuses on an Irish musician, known just as "Guy," and a Czech immigrant, known just as "Girl."
The company features Steve Kazee (Guy) and Cristin Milioti (Girl), along with David Abeles, Claire Candela, Will Connolly, Elizabeth Davis, David Patrick Kelly, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty, and J. Michael Zygo.
The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Natasha Katz, and sound designer Clive Goodwin.
