Cliff Saunders (The 39 Steps), Keala Settle (Hands on a Hardbody), and Kyle Scatliffe (The Scottsboro Boys in the West End) will join the cast of the upcoming Broadway revival of Les Misérables, producer Cameron Mackintosh announced today. Saunders and Settle will take on the roles of the Thénardiers, and Scatliffe will play Enjolras. As previously announced, Les Mis is set to begin performances on March 1, in advance of a March 23 opening. Laurence Connor and James Powell will direct the newly imagined revival.
Saunders, Settle, and Scatliffe will join previously announced cast members including Ramin Karimloo (The Phantom of the Opera), Will Swenson (Hair, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Caissie Levy (Ghost, Hair, Wicked), and Nikki M. James (The Book of Mormon). As recently announced, Andy Mientus and Charlotte Maltby will join the cast in their Broadway debuts as the musical's young lovers, Marius and Cosette.
Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo's classic novel of the same name as well as on original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, an adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, and additional material by James Fenton.
