The Winslow Boy Returns to Broadway Tonight for the First Time in 65 Years

Terence Rattigan's play about family love and honor in Edwardian England gets its first Broadway revival in a production by Roundabout Theatre Company.

By New York City

Anglophiles everywhere will want to run down to the American Airlines Theatre and settle in for an exciting evening of tea and something less than sympathy: The first Broadway revival of The Winslow Boy is set to open tonight. Expect fancy costumes and dignified outrage in this family drama from Terence Rattigan (Man and Boy), about a boy from a privileged family who is expelled from naval college for allegedly stealing a five-shilling postal order. You can bet your bottom dollar that the Winslow clan spends a whole lot more than five shillings defending him in court.

Starring Tony Award nominee Michael Cumpsty (End of the Rainbow), Tony nominee Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Man of La Mancha), Drama Desk Award nominee Alessandro Nivola (A Month in the Country), and Tony winner Roger Rees (The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby), The Winslow Boy also features Zachary Booth (The Mound Builders), Spencer Davis Milford (Broadway debut), Charlotte Parry (The Importance of Being Earnest), Chandler Williams (In the Next Room), Meredith Forlenza (A Behanding in Spokane), Stephen Pilkington (One Man, Two Guvnors), and Henny Russell (The Royal Family). In his Broadway debut, Olivier Award winner Lindsay Posner (Death and the Maiden in London) directs.

You can see production photos below. Bonus points go to anyone who strolls into the theater wearing one of those topcoats with the little cape (you have until December 1).
