Full cast and creative team are now set for the new Broadway musical Fela!, which will play the Eugene O’Neill Theater beginning October 19, with an opening set for November 23. Based on the life and music of African composer and performer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the show is directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones.

The musical — which has a book by Jones and Jim Lewis and additional lyrics by Lewis — is about Kuti’s controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. It features his rousing music performed live onstage by the world renowned Antibalas and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson. The production will also feature musical arrangements and additional music by Johnson and Jordan McLean.

As previously announced, Sahr Ngaujah, who originated the title role Off-Broadway, and Daytime Emmy Award winner Kevin Mambo will share the role of Fela, while Tony Award-winner Lillias White will play Funmilayo and Saycon Sengbloh will play Sandra. The cast will also include Corey Baker, Hettie Barnhill, Nicole Chantal DeWeever, Lauren Deveaux, Elasea Douglas, Rujeko Dumbutshena, Catherine Foster, Talu Green, Shaneeka Harrell, Abena Koomson, Ismael Kouyate, Gelan Lambert, Farai M. Malianga, Shakira Marshall, Afi McClendon, Adesola Osakalumi, Jeffrey Page, Daniel Soto, Jill M. Vallery, J.L. Williams, Iris Wilson, Aimee Graham Wodobode.
