Corey Cott will take over the leading role of Jack Kelly in the Broadway production of the musical Newsies at the Nederlander Theatre on September 5.

He replaces Jeremy Jordan, who received a Tony Award nomination for originating the role, and who will play his final performance on September 4 in order to begin work on NBC’s Smash.

The actor, who is currently making his Broadway debut as Jordan’s alternate in Newsies, recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. He has also appeared in several productions at Pittsburgh CLO including Miss Saigon, The Sound of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Newsies, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who dreams of a better life far from the hardship of the streets.
