Barbara Cook, revered concert and cabaret singer and legendary Broadway, will conduct a master class on Tuesday, August 13 in the Terrace Theater of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

She will work with six singers — Wendy Lane Bailey, Tracy Lynn Olivera, Patrick O’Neill, Jennifer Ridgway, Judy Simmons, and Tim Tourbin — during the two-hour class.
According to Cook, “The main thrust of what I do in these classes is attempt to have each person get in touch with his or her ’emotional well.’ I want them not to ‘perform’ for us but to have the courage to ‘be’ for us, to learn to trust whatever is unique in them.”

Tickets to observe the class are available to the general public at $5 apiece and may be obtained at the Kennedy Center box office or online at www.kennedy-center.org. Tickets can also be purchased via phone by calling Instant Charge at 202-467-4600 or 1-800-444-1324.

Following sold-out performances of her acclaimed show Mostly Sondheim at the Kennedy Center and at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center this summer, Cook is back in D.C. to present the show there again, August 14-18. An inductee into the Broadway Hall of Fame, Cook has won Tony, Grammy, and Drama Desk awards for her work in such Broadway shows as Flahooley, Plain and Fancy, Candide, The Music Man, and She Loves Me. She has given master classes everywhere from New York’s Juilliard School to the International Theatre Festival in Melbourne.
