Ping Chong + Company will present the Undesirable Elements Festival: Real People. Real Stories. Real Theater. at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre from October 18 to November 4.

Undesirable Elements Festival is under the artistic direction of Ping Chong (who is also the creator). He is joined by writers Kyle Bass and Sara Zatz, the latter of whom also directs.

This unique event, which is celebrating 20 years of Chong’s Undesirable Elements series, unveils the real lives and experiences of certain communities in dealing with issues of culture, race, sexuality, and society at large. Through a unique hybrid of oral history and theater, interviews are transformed into scripts that form the basis of three shows: Cry for Peace: Voices from the Congo, Secret Survivors, about adult survivors of child sexual abuse, and Inside/Outside, voices from the disability community.

The festival will also include panel discussions, live streams of performances, and the screening of a new documentary.
