PHOTO FLASH: Joy Behar, Andre De Shields, Karen Ziemba at The Devil’s Music Opening

On Wednesday, June 22, the Penguin Rep Theatre production of Angelo Parra’s The Devil’s Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith opened off-broadway at St. Luke’s Theater underthe direction of Joe Brancato, who conceived of the piece.

Opening night guests included Joy Behar, Andre De Shields, and Karen Ziemba.

As previously announced, Miche Braden plays the title role, and the cast features Aaron Graves, Jim Hankins, Keith Loftis, and Anthony E. Nelson, Jr.

The creative team includes Michael Schweikardt (scenic design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design), Patricia E. Doherty (costume design), and Jack Kennedy (sound design), along with Braden who also provided musical direction and arrangements for the piece.
