Public Theater Makes Love’s Labour’s Lost Songs Available Early

Each week The Public will preview a song from the new Shakespeare in the Park musical.

The Public Theater will release an exclusive sneak-peak song from the forthcoming Shakespeare in the Park production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, A New Musical every week for the next five weeks. Fans will be able to stream a total of six new songs by the end of the five-week period on Love’s Labour’s Lost‘s website.

From the creators of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Love’s Labour’s Lost, A New Musical is a contemporary musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy of revelry and romance. During a five-year college reunion, King and his friends decide to swear off women, but this promise is difficult to keep when four gorgeous girls appear from their past. This wild coming-of-age story celebrates true love and friendship through songs and sonnets.

Directed and adapted by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher), the new musical features songs by Obie Award winner Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Love’s Labour’s Lost is the first new Shakespeare-inspired musical to be produced at the Delacorte since Galt MacDermot’s Tony Award-winning Two Gentlemen of Verona in 1971. This new ode to Shakespeare will play from July 23-August 18 at Shakespeare in the Park’s Delacorte Theatre in Central Park.

This first week offers two new songs: “Are You a Man,” performed by Colin Donnell, Bryce Pinkham, James Barry, and Justin Levine, and “Love’s a Gun,” sung by Lindsay Mendez. Give them a listen by clicking here.
