Sting to Perform Concerts at the Metropolitan Opera in July

Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Sting will offer two performances of his world tour at the Metropolitan Opera on July 13 and 14, according to a report in The New York Times. Throughout the tour, Sting will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra under the direction of Steven Mercurio.

In the performances, the singer/songwriter will offer some of his most celebrated songs re-imagined for symphonic arrangement, including hits he had with The Police, such as “Roxanne,” “Next To You,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Every Breath You Take,” in addition to songs from his solo career — “Englishman in New York,” “Fragile,” “Russians,” “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You,” “Fields of Gold,” and “Desert Rose.”

Sting appeared on Broadway in 1989 in 3 Penny Opera. His music was also performed on Broadway in the revue Rock ‘N Roll! The First 5,000 Years in 1982. Among his CDs are the recent If on a Winter’s Night as well as Songs from the Labyrinth, Ten Summoner’s Tales, and Brand New Day.
