Tony and Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik will collaborate on the music for Carson McCullers Talks About Love, which as previously reported will be written and performed by Suzanne Vega. Kay Matschullat will direct the production, which will play Rattlestick Theatre, April 20-June 4, with an opening on May 5.

Vega, who is also writing music for the performance, will perform the title role in this piece in which McCullers talks and reminisces about love and art and life. The show will feature 16 original songs sung by Vega, who will be accompanied by guitar and piano.

The creative team will include Gerry Leonard (musical director), Louisa Thompson (scenic design), Jessica Pabst (costume design), Lenore Doxsee (lighting design), and Nick Kourtides (sound design).

Sheik won a Tony Award for the score for Spring Awakening, and he also wrote the score for the musical Whisper House. He won the Grammy for the Spring Awakening cast album and was Grammy-nominated for his 1996 pop hit “Barely Breathing.”

Vega is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, who burst onto the music scene with her self-titled, critically acclaimed debut album in 1985. Among her many hits are “Marlene on the Wall,” “Tom’s Diner,” and “Luka.”
