Bernadette Peters, Duncan Sheik, Stew, Vanessa Williams, et al. Set for Roundabout’s Sondheim 80 Gala

Additional participants have been announced for The Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2010 Spring Gala: Sondheim 80, to be presented on March 22.

The event will celebrate Sondheim’s 80th birthday, and will begin with an early 6:15pm performance of the Roundabout’s musical revue Sondheim on Sondheim at Studio 54. As previously announced, the cast of the revue consists of Barbara Cook, Leslie Kritzer, Norm Lewis, Erin Mackey, Euan Morton, Matthew Scott, Vanessa Williams, and Tom Wopat.

The celebration will continue at the Sheraton New York, with a gourmet dinner and a musical tribute featuring an array of original songs composed by Broadway’s current crop of musical theater writers. Artists participating include Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey, Michael John LaChiusa, Andrew Lippa, Robert Lopez & Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Duncan Sheik, Stew & Heidi Rodewald, and Jeanine Tesori & David Lindsay-Abaire. Their original compositions will be sung by Broadway performers including Bernadette Peters. The tribute concert is directed by Paul Gemignani. Also scheduled to participate in the gala celebration is Rita Moreno.

Sondheim’s many shows include Sweeney Todd, A LittleNight Music, Passion, Sunday in the Park with George, Pacific Overtures, Folllies, Do I Hear a Waltz, Saturday Night, Anyone Can Whistle, West Side Story, and Gypsy.
