Sondheim on Sondheim is a high-tech multimedia inside look at Stephen Sondheim's personal life and artistic process, with exclusive interview footage. It features brand-new arrangements of over two dozen Sondheim songs.
Directed and conceived by frequent Sondheim collaborator James Lapine, this production stars Barbara Cook, Leslie Kritzer, Norm Lewis, Erin Mackey, Euan Morton, Matthew Scott, Vanessa Williams, and Tom Wopat.

This overview of the great man;s work tries to be different. It combines video interviews and live performances and the show has a stunning visual look to it, but besides the clever scenery and the magnificent Barbara Cook its a rehash of the same old stuff. For this longtime Sondheim fan this show offered nothing new.

Because the indisputably brilliant composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim has towered above the musical theater pantheon for the last 50 years, retrospectives of the great man's work come at us regularly. This has been especially true during 2010, his 80th-birthday year, and for which the Roundabout Theatre Company has created Sondheim on Sondheim, now at Studio 54, which should keep both Sondheim aficionados and new converts alike satisfyingly entertained.
