Robert Redford to Be Honored by YoungArts

YoungArts will honor stage and screen star Robert Redford with the Arison Award at its An Affair of the Arts gala, to be held at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts and the J.W. Marriott Marquis Hotel in Miami, on Saturday, January 14, 2012. Bill T. Jones will present Redford with the award.The award is given annually to an individual who has had a significant influence on the development of young American artists. The gala will also honor visual artist Doug Aitken with the Alumni Award, and arts administrator Robert Lynch, President of the Americans for the Arts, with the YoungArts Leadership Award.

Redford’s Broadway credits include Barefoot in the Park, Little Moon of Alban, and Sunday in New York, for which he received a TheatreWorld Award. He is best known for his film work both in front of and behind the camera. He won an Oscar for his direction of Ordinary People, and was Oscar-nominated for his acting work in The Sting. He is currently in production on The Company You Keep, in which he will act, direct and produce.

YoungArts, the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) recognizes and supports America’s most talented 17-18 year olds in the visual, literary and performing arts. It identifies emerging artists and assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development, raising the appreciation for, and support of, the arts in American society.
